Farofa PVT++

Farofa PVT++ (Crunchy TVP Farofa)

A classic Brazilian side dish made with Textured Vegetable Protein (TVP) for a delicious, savory crunch.

Ingredients

1 cup vegetable oil

1 cup onion soup mix (approx. 1.5 packets/envelopes)

2 cups TVP (Textured Vegetable Protein / Soy Crumbles)

4 cups Cassava flour (farinha de mandioca)

Instructions

Preparation: In a cold pan (before turning on the heat), stir the onion soup mix into the vegetable oil until it is fully dissolved.

Heat: Turn on the heat and let the mixture fry for just a few moments.

Fry TVP: Add the TVP to the pan. Immediately reduce the heat to low and let it fry for about 3 to 5 minutes.
> ⚠️ Important: Keep a close eye on the TVP. If it stays on the heat too long, it will burn and become bitter, requiring you to start over.

Combine: Add the cassava flour, stir thoroughly until the mixture is well-incorporated and the flour is toasted to your liking, then turn off the heat.

Storage

To maintain the signature crunch of the TVP, allow the farofa to cool completely and then store it in an airtight container (like Tupperware).
